TGNCDC Sets $8,000 Goal for STL Give Day to Sustain Tower Grove South Substation

Tower Grove Neighborhoods CDC bought and renovated 3600 Bamberger and, in partnership with the 2nd District Police Department, organized the use of one of the units as a police substation. TGNCDC is asking for the communities help in keeping the substation and officers in the neighborhood.  The yearly cost to operate the substation is about $8,000, which includes utilities, insurance, landscaping, Static IP internet, mortgage, computers, hygiene/cleaning supplies and maintenance.

Less than a year ago, the apartment that now houses the Police Substation at 3600 Bamberger was known by all who lived and worked in the area as “that drug house on the corner”.   The building had 117 calls for police service over 3 years, ranging from drug sales and assaults to 4 calls for “shots fired” within 4 weeks.

When Tower Grove Neighborhoods Community Development Corporation (TGNCDC) purchased the building and added a Police Substation to 3600 Bamberger it resulted in a positive impact on residents and businesses in the surrounding neighborhood by re-purposing the “drug house on the corner” and decreasing the need for calls for police service.
