We’re thrilled to share that our latest project on Chippewa Street is officially complete!
For the past 15 years, this mixed-use building sat vacant, one of those properties neighbors walk past every day and wonder what it could be. Today, we can answer that question: it’s two spacious three- and four-bedroom apartments, ready to welcome families home.
Large-family rental housing is hard to find in St. Louis, and even harder to find at an affordable price. Bringing this building back to life means more than restoring brick and mortar. It means giving families room to grow and returning a long-dormant building to the life of the Dutchtown neighborhood.
It took a team
A project like this doesn’t happen without partners who believe in the vision, and we were fortunate to have an extraordinary group behind us. Each one played an important role in making today a reality.
Thank you to Legal Services of Eastern Missouri, whose work helped clear the legal barriers standing between a vacant building and a viable project. Thank you to Midwest BankCentre for providing the construction financing that made the rehab possible, and to the Federal Home Loan Bank of Des Moines for its Affordable Housing Program investment, which helps keep these homes affordable for years to come. Thank you to Dutchtown Main Streets for its partnership and continued commitment to revitalizing the neighborhood, and to the International Institute of St. Louis for connecting families with these homes and supporting them as they settle in.
Built right, on budget
A massive thank you to Mat Hartig, Steve Borfuff, and the entire team at Rubicon for staying on budget and delivering an outstanding product. Their craftsmanship and care show in every detail, and they were true partners from start to finish.
What’s next
Every vacant building brought back to life is a step toward a stronger, more stable neighborhood. We’re proud of what this team accomplished together, and we can’t wait to see these homes filled with families.
Thank you to everyone who made Chippewa possible. Onward to the next one!
